There is a very useful online "Dictionary of Ichthyology by Brian Coad at:

that has definitions for pretty well every ichthyological term you will
encounter.
affinis = related to but not identical with, affinity, relationship,
sometimes misleadingly employed as a synonym for phenetic similarity (or
akin to).
