Re: [Killietalk] Killies in an apartment

I started with one tiny tank in my old apartment and have moved up to 9
tanks, plus numerous live food cultures. My water change 'system' is
to have separate hoses for draining and filling, so I can fill one as
another drains. I've had more problems with water leaks from A/C
drains and bathtubs and ceilings than from my tanks. I am careful to
carpet the area around the tanks with towels when I do my major water
changes and prune the plants.

I have 3 29G tanks each on their own stands, and a bookcase-tower that
holds 3 12G nanocubes, plus a smaller shelf unit for 3 3G tanks. The 3
solo tanks and the nanocube towers put a load of about 300lbs on the
floor, which hasn't been a problem in any of my apartments. I haven't
bred that many different killie species yet--F gardneri, A loennbergii,
C fontinalis, and I have eggs on peat from R maculopinnis and R brevis,
but I've also bred mollies, Endlers, Thorichthys cichlids and now
rainbows from those same tanks.

One of my leases, BTW, did have a clause stating that aquariums were
limited to 20G max, but I already had the three 29G by then, and no one
complained.
