Re: [Killietalk] Couple of questions
Bev Doyle, who passed away a year or so ago, produced farrowellas on a
regular basis in her angel/discus operation near Newark, Ohio. She had a
spring water source and all her tanks were flow-through, so water
parameters were constant and fresh. She always had blanched vegetable
matter for them to munch on, mostly zucchini and cukes. They were
produced from groups of adults, 5-6/ tank. The male seemed to protect
the egg mass that looked like caraway seeds on the glass, and he would
"crack" the eggs when they matured to release the fry. Great
glass-cleaners, but, as Bev told me, that's not enough to support them.
I had them in several plant spawning killie tanks and they did not seem
to affect the egg production in mops, so I doubt they ate eggs. Mostly
vegetarian diet.
Now I know why I couldn't keep them going. I changed 40-50% of the water
weekly in my tanks.
