Re: [Killietalk] forums vs killietalk - delete if you have a heart condition
I know there will be some napalm coming my way for
asking this... But what is the point of the AKA?
So far as I can tell everything that the AKA does is
being done elsewhere. I can even make friends and
enemies without the AKA.
Before people start sending hate mail and loading up
the shotguns, at least consider my point of view.
As one of those "foreigners" I have a deep interest in
Killies and am looking for somewhere to belong and
hang out with other fish nuts, trade knowledge and
learn something new.
But as I see it I can pretty much do everything these
days without AKA BKA and so on. Even if i was in the
states I could turn up at local meetings, meet good
people, get fish etc and no need at all to bother with
the AKA at all. Apart from JAKA and the chance to put
a number after my name in email signatures, ...umm
what else?
The conservation groups seem a total mess, with the
left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
But there are already plenty of special interest
groups out there SAA etc. Even here in Singapore there
is a basic species maintainance program.
It would be far better if we could look to the AKA for
guidance and support to get things going.
I can buy all sorts of stuff on aquabid with minimal
problems, and as an aside aquabid has probably got
more people into killies in the last two years than
all the talk of promoting the hobby by the AKA in the
last twenty years. If you lived in rural areas killies
were just a dream.
Is it really so bad to have market rates for killies?
McCarthy would of hunted the AKA down..
There is a code of ethics, but has anyone ever been
kicked out? Since without some sort of discipline a
code of ethics is really just some writing, and that
is all.
Population 300 000 000 but 1000 in the AKA - 1:300 000
?? There are probably more people in the national dog
turd collecting club.
And before the flames come, I am really saying all
this not to put the AKA or anyone down, but just
calling a spade a spade. I know why I am a member of
IEEE and lots of other science and maths
organisations, hell i can even get a visa card and
frequent flyer miles with a lot of them. I want
somewhere to sling my hammock with other like minded
people, but what is the real purpose of the AKA? Not
even a free t shirt? If you cannot sell it to me,
someone who wants to be here. I dont see how you will
sell it to others.
To me it seems like the AKA is really missing a great
opportunity to create a place where we can all belong
and argue about Daves Diapterons. The AKA is missing a
great opportunity in taking the lead in supporting new
clubs nationally and also internationally.
Scott.
Singapore,
PS This applies to all the two timer BKA 'ers also..
While it is still legal there..
