Re: [Killietalk] Killietalk Digest, Vol 30, Issue 123

"I think that "box lot" sales and exchanges between clubs is going to be
more cost-effective than each individual having a pair or three shipped"

Huh?..that goes on? If it doesn't it really should, and BTW, that's a great
idea...but then again, for it to really work, each club might need a
"census" so to speak of what's locally available, and that there is the
"snag"...cuz as we all know, fish list are "Top Secret" ;-)

Still, kinda wish someone would take a "Stalin" like approach and beat us
over the head with that idea/concept...perhaps someone with some initiative
& familiarity to the assorted chairs....perhaps contact each affiliate
chairperson and get a "round robin" exchange going, heck maybe a $100
"pre-buy" for each grab bag "box"...figure sink 40ish for overnight shipping
and perhaps send 60 bucks back into the contributing clubs coffers...while I
know that's not exactly a windfall profit, it does get the fish out there
and gets em distributed "continentally"...

I mean hell, I can't imagine that in the 4 corners of the USA that some club
members don't have hatches of certain simps & nothos under 30-40
fish...where the hell do all the fish go? ...I would love to bring 4-6 pair
of S.const & N.Korthausae, et all at once to a club meeting and be done with
it...

Just my 50 cents....KC

Bill is exactly right, but my approach to a solution is somewhat different.

I think that "box lot" sales and exchanges between clubs is going to be more
cost-effective than each individual having a pair or three shipped. This
could provide another service that affiliate clubs to afford their members.

As I see it, the biggest problem with the F&EL rejuvination is now that
postage is getting a lot more expensive than fish. AKA'ers are used to
seeing very low fish and postage prices. I remember a couple of years ago a
friend of mine from HI was listing striatum for $11 a pr and got criticized
in the killitalk chatter for thinking his fish were gold. Add $20+ postage
for overnight which is now to many locations only "guaranteed second day" by
the USPO and who will pay? Go with a carrier like UPS or DHL and the
distance also enters the price picture. With plain old priority mail, live
delivery is getting unlikely to many locations and live guarantee is tough
to make under such circumstances. Weather is a factor negating value of
heat packs from cold to warm locations with other than overnight. I share
your experience Ed with 20 degree success but only overnight. If you ship
from up north, stick in a heat pack and have them to San Antonio two days
later in 75 degree weather plus a heat pack, it is unlikely even the old
sturdy guys would be happy in the box.
Well, now postage is becoming gold so be prepared to let the moths out of
the wallets if the F&EL is to do much business. Hope things work but I
think club meetings and events are going to see a greater increase as a
source and outlet for fish in the future.
