Re: [Killietalk] Sponge filters
I need a fool proof way of making SMALL sponge
filters. Reg size filters just take up to much room in
my smaller tanks. I have googled and found some
articles but they require drilling or some fairly
intense work.
or
Does anyone have a source for SMALL filters? I am
willing to puchase.

Morning Lisa. What I do, in my fry tanks is get a 1" PVC elbow, like you can
find in any hardware store, stuff one end of it with cotton balls. I place
this in the far end of the tank. Next, I get a some air tubing, a small air
stone (I like the Disguard-A-Stone kind, as they are smaller than others) and
a suction cup that is made to hold air line tubing to the side of the glass.
After stuffing the 1" PVC elbow with cotton balls, I usually test to make sure
that I did not stuff it too tightly by trying to suck air through it from
there other end. If the air cannot flow through easily, neither will water.
Once you have the right amount of cotton in the elbow, place it in the corner of
the tank in an upright position, like in an "L" shape. Then place the air
stone at the other end of the PVC elbow as far down as it will go, so you can
get the best flow rate. Use the air tubing holder to hold the air stone in the
PVC elbow, which will also hold the PVC elbow in one place. When replacing
the cotton, just cut some from the used cotton ball and wedge it between the
new ones, to keep your biological filtration going. I hope this helps. Jeff
