[Killietalk] API is looking for photos (can't we all just get along?!)
I posted a reply last night, but maybe it didn't go through, maybe it got deleted, I don't know. I also sent a private email to Tony, but judging from his later post to Killietalk, I'm not sure he got that. Probably just as well, since I may have been a little short.
Asking for photo donations was my idea. As in, personally. I suggested it at the meeting where this ad campaign was being discusssed. "Hey, I'm on some mailing lists and forums, I'll see if anybody wants to donate some photos." That's about how long it took for the idea to be pitched, and I got a "Hey, great, try that."
I'm a bit taken aback by the hostility of some of the replies.
As I said in the post I made last night, they say it never hurts to ask, but as is often the case, "they" are wrong.
A simple "nope" will suffice from now on! I understand EXACTLY what I am asking. I also know that we at API don't need to ask for photos - we have plenty of avenues through which we can purchase them. Those decisions are up to marketing, not my dept. I'm still interested in what Tony might have to offer, and I will still forward his info to marketing. Bottom line, it was MY idea, it's not some kind of hustle on the part of API. So, MY apologies to any whom I have offended, however misguided your offended sensibilities might be.
I can't say much about the campaign, but it important that the fish look wild, it's important that it is a habitat photo or could pass for one. I'm involved so that the folks in marketing don't end up picking well-made photos of orandas over fluorescent gravel or velvet swords. I thought you guys would be a good source for truly GREAT images - that was my ONLY concern in bringing this up. Nobody wants to cheat anyone out of the $$$$$$ your photos could make. So let's drop the subject, I'm (seriously) sorry I brought it up.
LEt me close by saying thanks to all those who have, however tentatively, offered photos. I'll see what the marketing folks think. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I can talk them into working some killie images into the campaign.
best regards,
Dave Schaeffer
here as a fellow hobbyist, but I DO happen to work for API
