Re: [Killietalk] golden wonders
how big of a tank do you have also? I found both aplocheilus and Epiplatys seem to spawn in spurts that I couldn't really attribute to anything. I have spawned aplocheilus lineatus and panchax in a 5.5 gallon bare tank with sponge filter and mops heated to around 78-80. I spawned the panchax first, 6 fish, I believe 50/50 sex ratio. At first I got nothing from them so I started varying mops from one or two, bottom, top and even one suspended across the surface hanging from the lid. I was finally able to spawn them after adding 3 or 4 mops, front and back in the tank. Once they started going, I couldn't keep up, then all of a sudden they stopped. No obvious weather changes I was aware of or feeding schedules. The first pair of Lineatus I tried (from petsmart just like yours) didn't want to spawn. I moved them back to their 60 gallon planted tank and tried another pair. the second pair spawned after a couple days and I got what I wanted from them and they went back t!
o the
community tank. I kept the panchax in their tank for about a year and earlier last year they went in the 60 as well to make room for epiplatys singa. I currently have epiplatys singa, dageti, lamottei and pachypanchax sakaramyi all in 5.5's on the same rack. the dageti are by far the easiest of all, they'll even spawn, hatch and grow in the same tank unlike most I've tried. The singa will spawn in spurts, sakaramyi are very slow, no eggs from the lamottei yet but they are not completely fullgrown yet but close. The golden wonders from petsmart start out ugly but will get very beautiful if fed right and given the right conditions. I found some wild colored lineatus in a shop but havn't been able to get them to spawn for some reason. I suggest you add some more mops and make sure the temp is as suggested already. Give them some time, they will kick in and you'll want them to stop. Kyle
