Well, I have had the same strain of emperor Tetras, Nematobrycon
palmeri for 30 years. Three times during that period I have added a fish
from another source, but they have been set up in their own 20 long heavily
planted, and today in a heavily planted 10 gallon tank. I did set them up
to breed occasionally in the late 70's and early 80's. when I was
breeding fish for resale.
