Re: [Killietalk] "Setting the hook"
I had always been into tropical fish, and since I began reading
articles on the internet quickly became familiar with killifish. They
seemd to be mysterious fish and some of the photos looked to good to
be true. They also seemed tough to raise and needing live foods. A few
years passed and though I had already kept and bred 2 species of
killies in my aquariums along with other aquarium fish stuff like blue
gularis, Fp. gardneri Notho. rachovii, Aphyosemion bitaeniatum,
Aphyosemion bualanum, Aust. nigripinnis....those were all fake fish to
me. From what I could see it didn't look like I would ever get a
chance to keep them. I also remember watching an auction on aquabid
where 12 Aphyosemion australe orange eggs got to the price of nearly
1.50 an egg! If eggs cost as much as many fish I own now, who knows
how much a pair would cost!
Of course eventually I began to redo my 46 gallon tank and met up with
a generous guy who keeps both killies and livebearers. He sent over
some cool livebearers for the tank and we eventually plunged into a
talk about killies. In short, he got me set up with my first bags of
eggs and a wealth of information and before long killies were amongst
my favorite fish.
