Re: [Killietalk] Nothos and Blackworms
Hi Joakim,
Always chop your blackworms before feeding all killifish as the worms are often too big for the fish's tummy and chopping helps digestion. Feed lightly and try to only use the worms for breeding fish and (well chopped) growing sub-adult fry. I feed blackworms maybe 4 feedings a week. Wash them in ice cold water and keep them in shallow water (top of worms touching top of water) in the crisper in the frig. I use a large tubberware shallow storage box with pin holes poked in its top. I wash the worms once a day in ice cold dechlorinated water. Nothos are less prone to bloating than other killies (Fundulopanchax, Gnatholebias, Callopanchax) but they can. When I feed blackworms that is the only meal that day followed by bs or live daphnia the next day. Blackworms are a great food for breeding and I wouldn't be without them.

Hello all!
I have been feeding live BBS, grindal worms and frozen bloodworms to my Nothos. I just ordered my first batch of live blackworms from California that should be arriving today. Are Nothos particularly prone to bloating (or any other problems) with live blackworms? Is there a need to introduce them into the daily diet gradually or is this generally not a problem? I plan on rinsing the worms frequently according the seller and not feeding them to the killies for at least 24 hours post arrival (does this help?). Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
