[Killietalk] George Maier Fund reminder
Before the busy holiday season begins, I wanted to take a moment and
remind everyone about the George Maier Fund (GMF) and specifically the
deadline for 2006 grant proposals.
The GMF exists to support research and conservation related to
Killifish. Since its inception a few years ago we have made two grant
awards and a third will be awarded at next year's convention. Anyone
with a worthwhile project related to killifish is encouraged to apply.
You need not be an "academic" nor even an AKA member.
Project proposals are due and to be submitted during the month of March,
2006, so this is a good time to begin developing possible projects and
to start at least "thinking-out" your proposal. You may look at the AKA
website www.aka.org for more detail on what is required in the written
proposal. (note that on the website the dates are from last year.
Upcoming proposals are due between March 1 and 31, 2006)
This year I wish to make a real effort to publicize the existence of the
grant program to EVERYONE who may have an interest including any and all
tropical fish hobbyists, aquatic researchers, grad students, you name
it. I have a feeling that here on the list I'm reaching many of those
who are serious about killifish research and conservation, but please,
if any of you have suggestions as to other places I can make notice of
the GMF program, please let me know.
If you have any questions at all about the program, its procedures, its
requirements, please write me off list at edd at catfishnthecrawlers_com
and I'll be happy to explain the details.

PS: kinda excited this morning to walk out the door and find Black Bear
footprints in the snow all around our house, especially around the
garbage can shed.
