Re: [Killietalk] another newbie question

Greg,

To wet the eggs generally means to break up the peat and submerge it in
water. I usually have 1/2 - 1 inch of water above the settled peat. If
eggs are ready to hatch, and the conditions are right, most of the fry
generally appear within the first 24 hours after wetting the peat.

To pre-wet the eggs generally means to spray them with water for a few
minutes, and then dry the eggs back out again. This is sometimes done
to get a larger first hatch of fish. I never bother with this, as the
first hatch of fish is usually plenty big for me.

All three of the species you received from your auction have a 2 - 3
month incubation time at 78 DF. Three months should be plenty of time
for all of them (at 78DF), and as such, your N. eggersi are probably
ready to hatch.

N. eggersi tend to be small, so you'll want to have some microworms,
vinegar eels, or infusoria to help get them through the first few days.
Of course I'd expect you would feed BBS too. :)

Good luck,

Mark
