Gary, I've never worried about the color of the bottom of my tank. Some
have natural colored gravel in them an others have nothing other than Java Moss.
Either way, the fish all seem to do well and spawn with no problem. I do
admit that a lighter colored bottom seems to subdue the fishes natural colors.
