Re: [Killietalk] Disinfection Questions

Sandy,

I've never disinfected sponge filters (as I've never felt the need), but
mops and peat I definitely disinfect. I do so by placing it in a bowl
of water and microwaving for 3-5 minutes. The water gets very, very
hot, and the microwave also cooks anything that might be living in
there. If it is peat, I squeeze out the water after it cools and keep
it in a bottle (i.e. peat tea for various uses). I also keep labeled
zip lock bags indicating what has been microwaved sterilized, and what
has not.

Hope this helps,

Mark
