It is not too uncommon for mature females to become bloated near end of 
life. Often it is classic "dropsy" but sometimes they just swell without 
too much of the lifted-scale "pinecone" look.

Somehow, they lose control of their body fluids and bloat like 
post-menopausal women. ;-)

Try to make her comfortable, and don't pay any attention if she gets a 
little bitchy. Raising the dissolved solids a bit can reduce osmotic 
pressure. Some salt, and a little Equilibrium if your water is very 
soft, may make her a bit more comfortable.

I don't know if this really works, so observe carefully for any signs of 
distress.
