[Killietalk] Nasty Algae Outbreak

Wright, you are going to get everything out of me aren't you.....

I am using pure r/o water but I am buffering the water with Seachem's r/o right and adding seachem flourish iron and flourish to the tank.

As I mentioned earlier, I have zippo in the way of algae. It is this pesky black fuzzy stuff that has just shown up all of a sudden. I do not know what the wood has to do with anything, except that maybe it attracts the fuzzy stuff, but I don't have wood in the tank either.

I ordered some snails but they will not be here for 2 weeks, and I have cut the light down to 10 hours a day, and will stop the fertilizing till I get the snails. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 2 weeks. I would hope that the fuzzy stuff will go away. Either that or I will have to ship it to Lee Harper's place. He seems to be the only one that wants it. ;)

I will try and add a picture to this email, but I don't know if it will work.

Allan

Therin lies your basic problem. Do some water changes with tap water,
and dose nitrogen, potassium and phosphates. Your plants are too starved
which encourages algae outbreaks. Pure RO water usually lacks enough
basic electrolytes for plants or fish to do well.
