Re: [Killietalk] Conservation

OPINION: (value $0.02)

That's why it's so important to get your fish into others fishrooms!

Give them away. Trade them for a Snickers bar. Give them to beginners.
Take a dime and a smile in exchange for a pair. Take an IOU.....or a
hamburger next Tuesday. Gosh, you might even go to the trouble of
listing them in the BNL.

You'll never get rich raising killies....nor even pay for their food. So
if you want to see them in the hobby in 5 years: Distribute your fish
(You can bet YOUR pair will refuse to breed a year or two down the
road.)

I agree. Keeping everything safe and sound in our tanks would be
impossible, but let's look at this example. Someone is looking for F.
robertsoni. It was mentioned that perhaps Gordon Zahn has them, which
may
or may not be true. Let's assume it is. Someone else listed a number
of
shows where these fish showed up. From personal knowledge, I happen to
know
that Gordon was at all of these shows. He may be the ONLY ONE keeping
this
fish without being aware of it. He lets his line die out as he's trying
to
lesson his fish room work load. I don't think he'd let them die out if
he
knew he was the only one with them, but how is he to know? I think a
rough
and simple accounting system might prevent some die outs, though
certainly
not all of them.
