Re: [Killietalk] CD project-fair price

To me a fair price would be somewhere between $20 and $30 a CD tops. This
is not going to be a money making proposition. Charge more and no one would
buy them. Anyone who can get a complete encyclopedia for about $40 on DVD
versus $3 or $4 hundred via book. Yes, we all paid for the membership which
does INCLUDE a JAKA subscription, but the dues really pay for the mailing
and that's about it!! The initial cost of the conversion is the majority of
the cost. Runoff copies are not al that expensive. As for piracy, it exists
everywhere but what is the audience? Killie people who are mostly pretty
honest. No one else would want it, and if they did, so what, we stir
interest in killies and is that not what we are supposed to be doing??? I
doubt anyone out there would pirate it to try to reatil copies. At $25, we
might actually have a pet shop market?
Our hobby has never been one for making a profit. Most of us who actually
sell their fish place an inherent value resulting in better care for a fish
that took the breeder some real time, cost and effort to raise, not a money
making venture. What is the AKA for? To me it exists to promote the hobby.
Seems not want to sponsor collecting or issue material that is not
profitable is a current philosphy with which I totally disagree.. If I can
spend time, electric, food, webcosts, water costs to raise fish to sell at a
loss as an individual to promote the hobby, the AKA can do sometthing at a
loss too!
