Costa described it as a separate species - that's good enough for me.
I asked around a while back, and it doesn't seem like too many people know about that fish, even though it seems to be fairly common. They do look a LOT like the whitei "reds" I've seen. I wonder if there a lots of hybrids out there. 0_o
