Re: [Killietalk] blackworms and water quality
A little more thought on the chlorine in the wash water. I have washed and
stored tubifex worms for years in tap water containing lots of chlorine and
chloramine without any problem. On the other hand I have religiously avoided that
same water for daphnia cultures. Guess what? My tubifex do fine and my daphnia
has periodic and frequent crashes and declines. Maybe I should leave the
chorine in the daphnia replacement water. I should add that I do not use
"formaldehyde-based" dechlorinators, but have used both carbon filtered water and
thiosulfate treated water for daphnia with no difference I can see. I also would
like to point out that I have occasionally killed fish with incompletely
dechlorinated water. A test kit is a useful tool. I can add a commercial endorsement
of the test kits that Charles Harrison offers on his web site. Commercial
tests for chlorine are getting hard to find.
