Re: [Killietalk] Questions from October BNL

<virtually guaranteed not to cover even a fraction of the production

the field. I am only suggesting that the
BOT look into this now; see if some aspects can be done by AKA members
and the rest of
it professionally. It does come down to this; if we want it in this
format we will have to
work on it and pay for it. Exploring, getting estimates etc is usually
free.

When I was chairman of the BOT back in about 1991 we looked into the
various options for having JAKAs put onto CD. I forget the details but,
based in part on the ACAs experience, we were able to determine that
having it done professionally presented two options: a) one could get it
done for a fee which at that time was about $50,000 (by now it may well
be much more); b) one could possibly find a company that would do it at
a much lesser cost to the AKA but then the AKA would have to give up all
rights to the material and would have nothing to do with the marketing,
have no say in the final pricing, no financial return. Even if one opted
for an arrangement such as outlined in (b) what company would take on
such a project when the returns are virtually guaranteed not to cover
even a fraction of the production costs ?

As Barry points out, it is only feasible for this project to be done
within the AKA, by volunteers (having the appropriate, equipment,
software and expertise), and according to a formally presented and
accepted set of specifications for the final product.

I agree. From a personal point of view, I still much prefer to read a
book rather than stare at a computer screen (I do enough of that
already). ________________________________________
