I started with N. korthausae. It's an attractive, easy, and prolific species
with a short incubation time of 2-3 months. It takes practice finding eggs
in peat; so when you collect peat if you don't find eggs, incubate anyway.
My first batch I found 10 eggs, and hatched out 50 fry. Other good species
for beginners are N. foerschi, N. guentheri, and N. palmquisti.
Also, many Fundulopanchax species are semi-annual and can be spawned over
peat and incubated like Nothos. I raise Fp. gar Misaje this way with a 4-5
week incuabation time. This works better for me than mop spawning, and I get
larger hatches at one time.
