If you could see lots of eggs in the peat, then I'd suspect that many of
the eggs are not yet ready to hatch. Redry the peat, wait a few weeks
and try wetting again. If you can, check for eyed up eggs before wetting.
Regarding cold damaging eggs on flights, as Wright suggests, it is a
possibility, if shipped on a purely cargo plane, as Fed Ex. Passenger
planes have pressurized, heated cargo compartments, but I am not sure
that is true for all purely cargo planes. It might help to mark eggs
packets "Keep at room temperature", although I'm not convinced anyone
actually takes any notice of such instructions.
