Re: [Killietalk] How do you breed your mop spwners?
No it is sort of like storing gardneri in damp peat.
The fry do not hatch until you place the mop into
water. The A lineatus(golden wonders) need a wetter
mop but still no water in the bottom of the bag bag.
It just saves a step of moving the eggs to wet peat
for storage to get the fry to hatch all at once. The
gardneri I had good results hatching 2 weeks spawn at
the same time. 3 to 4 days per mop as you need to dry
the eggs down so they develope slower on the mop. Like
most methods you have to play with it a bit to get
good at it. The golden wonders worked for a weeks
spawn(harvested twice) at once but they would not
stretch to 2 weeks worth of spawn for one hatching
without large losses of the first weeks batch. I love
it as I do not have fry hatching daily. I have a large
hatch at one time(well depends on how many eggs are
being laid).
Here is David's site:
http://www.djramsey.com/tropfish/picking_eggs_mop_peat.htm
That page has the info on it how to do this method. I
had to work with it a bit to get the golden wonders to
work. The A. australes seem to work just like the
gardneri so far(only one batch of fry).
