Re: [Killietalk] "no eggs"

I thought about that myself, but annuals are kinda a special case I think:

I got S.Const & bokermanni. Despite frequent feeding & the utmost care &
water changes, the lil rascals grow excruciatingly slow or rather seem to
hit a "wall" at 3-4 weeks... (same w/leptolebias). If the S.Const don't end
up as feeders, I usually give em away as "extras" or trade/sell the eggs
rather than getting a rep for peddling runts...(I got other simps under the
EXACT same care grow 3X faster it seems)

Nothos ship poorly, or at least I'm not so sure fasting 48-72hrs per
"conventional wisdom" is a good idea prior to shipping...not many I get in
make it (from very reliable people no less)...The few I did get, someone
here had to bail me out on meds not too long ago...besides, by the time many
are respectably sized, there goes 25% of their lifespan...BTW, I've been
taking my chances w/ammonia and shipping nothos w/a 12-24hr fast, all have
seemed to make it OK

Then there are the horrific sex ratios many annuals are notorious for...I'm
thinking many folks would rather just sell/trade eggs of GUE & KOR, etc and
let the buyer deal w/the extra males or females. ...what to do what to
do....

Just some thoughts...Ken

Hi all,
I look at Aquabid and typically see maybe 60-70 different annual egg
auctions. I look at the fish section and rarely see more than a dozen
annuals offered. What happens to all these eggs? If they result in
successfull spawns, where are all these fish?..I don't typically keep
annuals but on the occasions I have, I've had both huge spawns with more fry
than I could possibly raise as well as total busts.....nadda...not one fry.
FWIW, I get the feeling that a reasonable percentage of these auctions
result in little if any fry. I'm astounded at the amount of money people
will pay for eggs considering the results are so problematical.
