Bottom holes are put in by some people to put a stand pipe in the tanks for 
an over flow, the water  can either go to a drain and out of the system or 
go to filter bed to be recirculated. On some systems a pipe runs along the 
rack under the tanks and the pipe extends low enough for it to drain into 
this pipe with no fittings, making it easy to lift a tank off and sterilize.
