I just hatched some N. whitei yesterday using regular tap water. I actually use the water out of one of my large aquariums for this to make sure it is "aged". Although the hatch wasn't huge the fry appear to be fine. My water hardness is about the same as yours. As far as not being any trouble whatsoever that would be pretty hard to commit to but then again maybe the tap water would be better than RO. Maybe you could split your peat up and try half each way and let us know how it turns out.
