If you are using a blower, just jam them together. Air leaks are not a
factor unless one joint actually comes apart. If you are using a volumetric
pump, then air leaks can be a problem and higher pressure might push joints
apart. . I use a 1/3 hp blower and can actually disconnect a 1 inch line in
one room and the other rooms keep going. The only joints I glued are those
I need for holding the pipe in place on vertical runs. I doubt the thicker
cement makes a lot of difference, if any. Just less "runny" to use. You
might consider using the thicker cement and just applying it after pushing
the pipe into the joint to give you a little seal and minor strength which
you might be able to remove with a razor blade.
