"Gorilla hair" is a mulch made from the bark of redwoods that Bill Gallagher 
has been using as a fibrous peat replacement. Once you clean the wood chips 
out it makes a great substrate that is purported to be pH neutral. I've been 
trying it out in all my tanks. It's a little work to clean it up but it 
works well and is a lot cheaper than importing german peat. It looks like 
gorilla or middle-aged fishkeeper fur :)
