RE: [Killietalk] Breather bags

Hello Wright,

Thank you for the information; hadn't really considered that most likely
because of the additional weight. Killie nuts seem to be very nickel and
dime oriented; don't have a problem with ordering an extra bottle shiraz
because of weight. Then again I wouldn't consider subjecting a wine to
this
kind of heat, so I won't do it to the fish. stay cool

Erny

If your need is urgent, there is a partial way around hot weather. You
can use the "Blue-Ice" o/e gelled devices for a little added thermal
mass in a really *good* styro/cardboard shipper. It runs shipping cost
up a bit and may not work for a really long trip. Otherwise, one of
those packs at room temperature or partially chilled in the refrigerator

(not necessarily frozen), and insulated somewhat from the fish bags with

bubble pack, plastic popcorn, etc. can keep the fish from getting
cooked.

It is particularly vital to label the box with big red letters:
"PERISHABLE." That gets it on the very first flight out, ahead of other
boxes, and it can call attention to any warning to "keep at room
temperature, avoid heat or cold." Such warnings are usually not read
without the PERISHABLE trigger word. It's a post office thing, I think.

Sat., in AL, it arrived Tues. AM and probably got to the Bishop PO late
Mon. night.]

It seems a waste to add weight, when we like the low cost of shipping
tiny amounts of water in the breather bags. Nevertheless, it may be the
more economical thing to do in a heat wave.

PS. I have done the same thing by just adding a big, doubled
thick-walled bag of water. The gelled products are less likely to leak,
tho.
