RE: [Killietalk] Breather bags
Erny
If you know how long the fish are in transports perhaps a cold pack wrap in
newspaper to chill the box would be the way to go. Just the opposite of a
hot pack application.

Thanks Ken,
I was afraid of that. I guess there will be no shipping while we have
these temperature extremes.

Hi Erny
This would not be a good idea as the wet paper would prevent gas
exchange
over the bag surface; the result would likely be dead fish as they would
be
in very small amount of water with no gaseous O2 to replace that in the
water. What I do is wrap/separate the bags from each other with old fish
room towels. Transporting the bags either in a styro or insulated
carrying
bag; it works for me at both ends of the temperature extremes.
I have found them to be very space efficient and I have fish stay in
them
for almost a week. Other in our area have transported fish for over a
week
with no need of re-bagging.
The temperature thing is there breather bag or not.
Just my two cents, CAN.

Greetings brosister hood of killietalk,
Any thoughts/experiences/opinions on the efficacy of wrapping the
breather bag bagged fish in slightly damp newsprint in an effort to
reduce the temperature somewhat. Of course the fish would already
be in the breather bag and would then be wrapped. I'm not suggesting
sopping wet but slightly damp to the point where the paper loses
stiffness.
What do you think.
Erny
