Wright,
Perhaps you should specifically ask him. Several people on this list
have called Novalek to ask them, and they are dropping them. The
reason, as explained to me, has nothing to do with them puncturing. It
has to do with sales. Furthermore, I get the impression, although I
did not specifically ask, that they only ever had one batch made and
have been selling them ever since. It seems they have not sold well
enough to justify having another (huge) batch made.

Maybe I was derelict for not pushing for such information, but I
probably was unaware of the discontinuation story at the time. In
addition, I usually would not try to even get such information, for I
was in manufacturing for over 30 years and am well aware that true
future product plans should never be shared with any one. That is
particularly true in a cutthroat, competitive business like Kordon's.
Likewise, I tend to strongly discount any future product predictions by
the sales staff. :-) They obviously are most concerned, but rarely
really know what top marketing management plans to do. A rumor that "you
better get while the gettin's good" can be a nice little boost to
short-term sales. Many a sales manager has been known to play that game.
Interestingly, I recently discovered that the same apparent material is
being used in a different and quite clever application. I needed a
bandage for a skin tumor that is awaiting removal, and the Dr. had them
apply one that I could even wear in the shower! It was a small fiber pad
over the wound, but a super-thin, flexible tape material that breathes
well enough to leave on for long times, yet repels water when exposed to
it. The brand name was Aquacel CE, and it is made in England. Unlike the
soggy condition left under many tapes, it left the skin moist, but
otherwise exactly as if it had been in air. It seems to be prized for
wound care for it allows moist healing with great gas permeability. Easy
removal, too.
Apparently made of sodium carboxy-methylcellulose fibers, I'm not
certain it is the same stuff. At $8 for a 4X4 piece, it certainly brings
a lot more markup than breather bags. :-) Maybe we will be shut out by
the demand for wound care. ;-)
