Re: [Killietalk] New Member
Daniel,
I only started this April with killifish. Try your local pet shop that is privately owned. There are a few species that are commonly on the available list even if this shop never stocks them. The mop/plant spawning killies do not need peat moss and dry time, ect.. I have never seen a annual(peat spawning) killie available in a LFS. So the question is have you raised any other type fish even the very easiest like guppies? Raising fry of most fish is simular. Most killies will need some amount of live food to produce well. I find that live fry foods are great to have as well, like microworms. I am glad I joined the AKA but there is enough info to get you started without spending the money. I am sure alot of people want to try these fish without getting into a club/group to learn about them. A great forum for killies is at Dallaskillifish.com . They also have a beginners guide and other info linked from their home page. If you sign up on the AKA web site(not becoming a membe!
r) you
can use the find member option and put in your town, state ect. to find someone close to you. I have no one in 50 miles of me that I know of that keeps killies. I know one young lady that keeps a few killies but is not set up to breed killies who is 60 miles away. But that is living in a rural part of TN for yah. I advice you not to order eggs to start with. If you have a pair of killies laying a few eggs everyday the loss of a few eggs while you learn is no loss as you learned from your mistakes.
Later,
John Cox

There doesn't seem to be a lot of info available about how to raise Killiefish. I read about using peatmoss/ small tanks/ letting eggs dry out. . . I am so confused. Where to start??
