Depends on what you may ever want to get thru there. In my garage, I left enough width in one isle for a washer, dryer or freezer to pass without touching tank racks. Figure the width of the widest door that restricts room access for the isle most likely to be used for passthru. (unless it is a double car garage door!)

I am sorry, phrased my question wrong. What is the suggested distance
between racks. I don't want to guess 4 ft, then find I could have gotten
another row in if I had gone 3 ft because 4 ft is way too much space. Or
maybe even worse, go 3 ft and find I am spending all my time twisted up
trying to catch the fish in the tanks.
