Re: [Killietalk] Fish room design

John is correct. I have 1 rack on the ground and 3 racks above them. The top I have resigned to having breeding pairs or groups of fish that I don't have to watch a few times a week. The bottom rack (on the ground) I use as sumps and storage .... a few have Ep dageti groups or blue gularis in them but I ignore them a lot and they never get water changes (twice a year).

If I had 3 racks, I would have more fish and an easier time taking care of them (I just bought a house and am moving in September so I will rework the racks then after getting rid of a few larger tanks in the 110 gallon range and 50 gallon range).

Hello David

I have toyed with the idea of building new racks to accomidate more
tanks in less space, building the tiers 4 high for 10 gallon tanks as
now which i have 3 tiers high.... I have finally accepted the fact that
if you go 4 tiers high with 10 gallon tank racks you cant properly reach
back of the tank even if you step the rows like Jim has suggested... i
put my tanks front to back to save space and i get a rack of 27 tanks in
3 tiers high in an 8 foot space. gives plenty of room to work in each
tank plus have a light over the tanks if i want to. I have 10 inches
space between top of the tank and bottom of the 2X4 above it. Making
the top row at 5 ft 10 to the top of the tank on the top third tier.
Helps that im tall too i guess...

With my 5 gallon tanks i have been able to work out a rack that works
for me that is 4 tiers high... smaller tank height has helped in that
department. Hope this helps you out..

But.... i have also been eyeing some of those Metal industrial racks
that they sell at Samms Club and figure i could go 4 tiers high because
their shelves are not as thick as my 2X4 rack... saving some space and
going to 8 inches between racks i could get the 4th tier in but the top
of that tank would be very high.. but then again i am tall!!

John
