Response:

When the Judging Committee was first organized there was an attempt to
develop judging standards for all species, sub species and locations.  It was
a very formidable task and although many of these standards were written,
Charlie and his gang realized the massive nature of the task and abandoned
the project.

In the end you have to hope a judge is familiar with the species he or she is
judging and has the knowledge needed to make determinations of what is good
and what is not.  If you look into the point system the crew initially
developed it is flexible enough to tell you when fish are good and healthy,
compatible, deport well and in my book you have a 10 point area as a judge in
breeding potential to really decide whether or not you would want to breed
the fish if you had them (I know that is not everyone's interpretation).
What this process gives you as a judge is a way of saying whether or not the
entry is a bad, fair, average, good or excellent representative of its
species and that if it is a 95 point Fundulus species versus a 90 point
Chromaphyosemion, then the better example of its species wins over a fish
that may have color up the ...
