Re: [Killietalk] RE: Fungus grazing Asellus now egg incubation and algae eating shrimps

I adopted my technique from a few members of the
Killies.com forum. It is all archived there so I
suggest you see for yourself what they do. However
since you asked what I do I will see if I can answer
that. I have a few heavily planted tanks devoid of all
life just plants. I place a plastic container in these
tanks with a 150-micron screen on the sides as to
allow the free flow of water in and out. The water in
the tank is peat and oak leaf treated. I add a few
sprigs of Java moss to the container and I then add
eggs I collect from a spawning. I separate my prs and
then spawn them once or twice a week. I add a couple
of Japanese black shrimp, or that what they were
called when I purchased them anyway. These I have had
excellent results with. They clean the eggs and will
not eat the good eggs. I also allow a flow of water
from an irrigation spray to drip in from above the
container. I beleive Whright also advocates the use of
snails which I have not as of yet tried. I can tell
you make sure to experiemnt with a few eggs first as
not all shrimps will work like for example the North
American Ghost shrimp will eat eggs and even small
fish!
