As I seldom have dead critters laying around that I would trust to
handle, how about a little hamburger? Might htat work for the
daphina/bacterial growth?

I doubt it, Bill. You need the skin to slow the process or you will do
exactly what I did when I overfed a Daphnia barrel about a week ago. I was
using a commercial Daphnia food, but it is as rich and stinks about like
the Cyclopeeze. The tank is now a noxious 40-50G of foulness, and IDK how
long it will take to clear. Sure killed off most of the pulex I had in
that tank. :-(
It might work if you could slow the bacterial growth to a more modest
rate. Maybe you could try wrapping it in an old handkerchief and sinking
that in the tub. [I take no responsibility for the results. Do at your own
risk.]
I still like green water best. A little Miracle Grow and some summer sun
seems to make it grow fast. The urea and ammonia in the fertilizer can
kill your Daphnia, so be careful.
