Re: [Killietalk] On-line Roster
Lee,
First, I urge you to download and try Firefox (from www.mozilla.org). It
works much better than IE on the Mac. The latter I know has some issues
and I suspect you are seeing a rather bizarre color scheme on aka.org if
you are using it. That is not the case on IE on the PC, but it reflects
inconsistent browser interpretation of the stylesheets used to control
the site's color schemes. When I have some hours to spare I have to try
to find a fix for that, but it is not a trivial thing. Alternatively,
try Apple's own Safari browser, which is pretty good and correctly
renders the site.
I need to write some FAQs about the Find Members module, but I am afraid
that most people don't read them anyway. They just try, then ask me what
to do. It is pretty intuitive, I think, to click on the login ID and
email address, column headers, etc. They are highlighted in orange and
change to blue when you mouse over them, just like other links on the
site. One of the reasons i changed the color scheme was to make links
more obvious by having them in a distincly different color from the rest
of the text.
Regarding inaccurate information in member entries, there is nothing I
can do about that except invite people to check their own record. This
is not a new problem. We have had people complain in the past that they
were not getting mailings, even though they had failed to notify us of
an address change. Only the members know when they change address, email
address etc. Changing that information is easier than ever. Just click
on the Manage Profile link that is at the top of every page and you will
be taken to the page in the Membership module that will allow you to
update most entries in your profile (except such things as AKA number,
exp. date, etc). Once you have updated that information it is
immediately available to the membership database, thus ensuring that
mailings, emails etc. reach you. I can't see how we can make the process
much easier for members.

Barry,
Well, no matter what I do, the enter and return keys do not work with
Internet Explorer in Mac OS 9.2 or in Mac OSX or IE 5.1 or 5.2. But now that I
know that, it is not a big deal.
In so far as the incomplete data, that seems to be not reproducible. I
get the full list of 60 Pennsylvania members this afternoon, but this morning I
only got about 20 or so. I did not know that the complete address info was
available by clicking on the username. That information in itself is worth the
price of these communications and maybe will help others find it more useful.
However, there are many members that I can identify who have not updated
their email addresses and perhaps not even their other information. I urge
everyone to check on your own data.
