Re: [Killietalk] hydra

Bet you're feeding your fish some BBS. Every time I feed my fish for longer than a month on BBS, I end up with hydra. Joe Scanlan MD

Subject: [Killietalk] hydra

well it finally happened, I have hydra. I havn't found any in my killie fry or breeder tanks but in a 65 gallon planted community tank with rainbows, aplocheilus lineatus, congo tetras, bolivian rams, pearl gourami's, corydoras, bristlenose pleco's, rasboras and nerite snails. My tank is setup a little different with 2/3 of the tank covered in sand and planted (before I knew sand wasn't a good plant substrate) and the other 1/3 with gravel and a makeshift platform/shelf made of patio stones glued together so there is about a 1foot/1foot shelf supported 3" off the surface. I found the hydra when I had a flashlight looking at something else under the shelf. I can't find any hydra anywhere but under there in the dark so they either don't like the light or something is keeping them under control everywhere else. I've read pearl gourami's may eat them so this might account for the small area infected or they just havn't been in there long enough to overpopulate the tank. I!
don't
have enough flubendazole to dose the tank and most forms of eratication involve emptying the tank which is out of the question. Anyone have any good cures for my condition? I found a mention of fluketabs being a possible cure but wanted to see what you guys think. thanks, Kyle Osterholt in Oklahoma
