When I built the fishroom I decided this room is to be shared. I talked to
my local schools and girl scouts. I have 4 bookings.
I have set up a geography section and a science station with microscopes and
a laptop.
Response was great.
I did ask if the AKA had any prepared educational material for schools and
was told no.
I am new to killies (only my 3rd year) and it will take me a lot of research
time to prepare this material. Of course I will do it but, shouldn't the AKA
have some material for schools?

TO make the convention larger and have a better show we have to increase the
membership and this is done by capturing the minds of our young and helping
them create an interest. The guys in Tampa are starting in the right
direction what we need to do is get this started in every school district in
the USA. With increased membership will come the increased comparative
spirit in shows.

Bill Shenefelt pointed out the primary reason the annual AKA show does not
attract the same number of entries as does the DKG show. In the USA we have
numerous regional or affiliate fish shows during the year. Then too, the
size of the USA requires long distance travel whereas a European show as the
DKG covers a much smaller area making auto traffic (or rail) convenient and
inexpensive.
I personally feel the annual AKA show is vital to the AKA as it brings
together members from all areas of our country as well as many foreign
visitors face to face for a wonderful weekend "killifish orgy.". It
behooves us to schedule regional killifish shows well away from our annual
show to avoid "bleeding off" fish for the big convention. This is OUR
central organization and should be supported and fostered by every member.
See you in Tampa for convention 2006
