[Killietalk] Austrolebias arichan
Hello All,
I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the convention. Thanks to everyone who took the time to help out a first-timer and also those of you who gave such good advice on fish keeping and breeding. I made plenty of new friends and met quite a few people I have admired here on killietalk. Kudos to the clubs that put on the Big Show, all of your hard work led to a very enjoyable experience. I heard some grumblings that there were not a lot of fish at this convention compared to some others, and all I have to say about that is wow ! For those of you who are looking for fish, convention is the place to be. I obtained all the species on my must-have list and a couple others that caught my eye. For the next couple of days I will be buying, borrowing, begging or stealing every 5 and 10 gallon tank I can get my grubby little paws on !
Sadly, the Austrolebias arichan I picked up at the auction did not make it. The pair died in transit. I would like to donate them for Dr. Glen Collier's DNA survey. I know I probably did the wrong thing, but as I was on the road for 2 days, I was forced to freeze them. Any instructions for better preservation and how and where to send them would be appreciated. If the person who placed them in the show would contact me, I would like another chance at trying to breed this beautiful species.
The other species I brought home are all doing well. I am making mops and boiling peat and scrubbing aquariums and... Speaking of boiling peat, for those of you who are married, take Bob Morenski's advice and do it OUTSIDE ! Since I live not too far from the Everglades, the smell of burnt swamp is not too objectionable, especially this time of year, but if I wasn' t single already, I definitely would have been after tonight's little experiment.
