Since we are all on this topic for a little bit, and more people are
putting this kind of project together, I thought I'd ask a question, which
is plaguing me.
Does anyone have a good way of metering salt into a system that
automatically runs from either A) the water pressure in your house's
plumbing system, or B) a holding tank that tops itself up as water is used
out of it?
Since I mainly keep Nothos, I want to keep salting the water. And
ideally, the water change system would just run off of my house's
plumbing. But I haven't been able to come up with a way to add salt to
the water that is consistent, automatic, and meters the same amount of
salt per the same volume of water. Maybe there is a device out on the
market that does this? Maybe someone is ingenious and has come up with a
clever way to do this?
The only way I can think of doing this is to have a holding tank where I
heat the water, and manually add salt. Let the system remove water from
this tank (via a pump). After the system has used water, manually top of
the tank and add in the appropriate amount of salt for the water that has
been added.
Obviously there is a lot of manual interaction there, and it would be
great to eliminate that. Does anyone have a bright idea for the dunce
(me)? ;)
TIA,
Mark
