[Killietalk] The good fish and the convention
To people going to the convention for the first time. Yes, some fish will go
for outragious amounts of money. But a slew of great fish will go for next
to nothing. I got my first pair of puerzli at the Tampa convention for less
that $10. I think they were $6.00. I have their progeny still going strong.
Still with great colors. I may be off a little, but I got about 15 bags of
fish and spend about $10 a pair on average. Hey, thats shipping on Aquabid,
and you get to see the fish first. And actually talk to the breeder in most
cases and find out what to do to care for your new fish.
Sometime Saturday evening you will be able to see all the show fish. Write
down the tank numbers of the ones you want, and put a max bid amount or some
kind of order to how bad you want this or that. Then when the auction starts
whipping them off on Sunday you will know what you are bidding on. Make a
long list, some of them will go sky high. Unless you have deep pockets, you
won't get them. But some of them will go home with you too.
Have some empty tanks set up and running at home for your new fish. And a
big rubbermaid tub with conditioned water for putting the overload of fish
into 'make do' containers will be welcomed also. I always hate to see how
many lonely heart listings show up after the convention because one or the
other of the fish died.
