[Killietalk] re: Newbies at the convention

Hi everybody,
Like they say: "perception is part reality"...

A lot goes unsaid, or at least happens via private correspondence, hence
what may appear to be "public opinion" might be in reality just be the
platform of the "influential old guard"...problem is: those same few
"old farts" are producing "tangibles" (they are the activist), what are
the rest of us doing?
So unless you want to be a outspoken newbie like myself (and a few
others) and risk alienation, "we get what we get", at least until we
earn the right otherwise (speak up or do something or both)...don't let
the de facto enforcement scare you, if "they" can't forgive you for a
provocative or alternate opinion, then they are "little people"
anyway...(like I suspect)
(Too often on this mail list we confuse being "provocative" as being
confrontational...not the same thing)

So yep, this sub culture is quirky, shoot, you can see that trying to
get fish, where are they? Aside from a few genuine "rare reserves" held
back for convention candy, the whole matter is wacky, laughable
really...
With all the means at our disposal to advertise what we got to
buy/trade/sell rare species, the logic for all the "missing fish"
escapes us outsiders/newbies...

Follow this: if you have a species that is rare/endangered, it follows
then that one would want said "rare fish" to get exposure...Fact is,
your "species maintenance program" is less effective if nobody can see
what you have...Hence us "outsiders" can only draw a few conclusions:
A) You don't wanna be bothered with inquiries, or
B) You must be part of some "clique", network, group of friends
(whatever you wanna call it), and only share/distribute fish within
it///
C) You feel a need to assign some value on the potential buyer/recipient
of your fish (they ole "you need to stick with gardneri" syndrome)

Truth is: you old boogers make no real effort to expose your "rare
stock" to anyone, but each other...Sure, a lot of you are darn helpful,
heck, sorting my inbox by "sender" reveals a LOT of time & effort just
on my behalf (BTW thanks, you know who you are)...So yeah, I know, but
again; perception is part reality, I still think we can do better...
