[Killietalk] RE: What is new?

While I have been a member of the DKG off and on since 1973 I still knew only
a few people and unfortunately over the years some have dropped out of the
hobby and a few have passed away. So when I decided to attend my first DKG
Convention in 2002 it was a "first" and although I thought I knew my fish
pretty well, most of these guys didn't know me and I was pretty embarrassed
to try the little German I still remembered. Fortunately, the few folks I
knew did introduce me to others and that pyramided so by the time I returned
the next year a good chunk knew me as "Dave". One thing I remembered from
that first trip was attending a regional meeting the Saturday following the
DKG Convention where some of the old timers of the club showed slides of many
years before when the group hosted the Convention (like in the 70's or early
80's) and I was amazed at how many people I recognized who worked that show!

I think you are going to find that the folks that work with killies
universally are a great bunch of people, most are overly helpful to a fault.
There are pompous jerks as well no matter what country you are in but it is
just a reflection of society as a whole.

Maybe we should have some indication for badges that list number of
Conventions previously attended and number of years a member for those
newcomers.
