Hi All,
I cannot believe people are griping about donating fish to the Annual
Convention. My god, I have given 100's of pairs of killies away over 35
years. Has this country become so petty, greedy and penny pinching that we
cannot support a greater social good unless we personally receive a
financial reward? What a load of me me me me selfish junk. It's getting to
the point where a thinking person is going to be ashamed to call him or
her self an American. Give people. When it truly hurts -- as opposed to
just irks the greedy gene -- then bitch and moan and stop. Until then,
give. Personally, I am donating 30 pairs of fish to the N&RSC this
weekend. Brian asked and I said, "Sure, they're yours and I do not want
any money as I remember Steve Sellers waiting hours to get S. antenori for
us or bringing in wild bellottii, nigripinnis and elongatus from
Argentina." The AKA is here because of people who gave and gave and gave.
If you do not know the hobby's history then go learn it.!
I know what loving killies was like before the AKA. I know what calling
around month after month to local stores hoping for killies feels like.
Why do Americans have the memories and sense of tradition of gnats.

Al, your altruism with fish and eggs is legendary........ I cannot even
>begin to image how many fish you have given away over all of these
>years...............
Thankfully there are many people like you who help the Killifish hobby in
so many ways............
That said:
What ticks me off about the AKA is they charge for a membership and then
take your fish away sell them and give you nothing in return. It seems
like
double dipping to me.
You don't really believe that the cost of membership pays for the
materials you receive as a member................... and then leaves
enough profits to invest in publishing efforts to start the Production of
the Wildekamp's series, or to pay for the initial production of KMI4, The
new color booklet on Epiplatys, or the Beginner's Guide, in its 4 color
format.
In the early 70's the AKA depended upon the Conventions for an operating
budget just to meet the needs of members......................... The
limited distribution of JAKA and the increase over the years in color
makes it an expensive magazine to produce, and also the flagship of the
National Groups....................... WE keep the dues down to a very
acceptable level to encourage members to join. There is no need to
increase dues if we can support the AKA goals with donations...........
