Re: [Killietalk] Care of newbies and how important?

I have to admit I found kinda the same attitude at the
convention a few years back. I was so excited to be
there. Yet for the exception of one or two, no one
made an effort to help me feel welcome. I met another
guy there from my area and I talked with him. He was
there alone and no one sat or talked with him. I am
more of a social bug so I went out and talked with
people but I certainly felt there was a click that I
didn?t belong to. I would have thought the older wiser
members would have welcomed all the new blood. Also I
noticed 90% of members were middle age plus. So in 10
years who will be running the AKA if that attitude
does not change? I have also contacted members
regarding getting Diapterons from them. You know I
didn?t even get the courtesy of a response! I assume
because I was not worthy of them because I was not
part of the "click". Perhaps I am assuming too much
there, but I was not alone in that sentiment. I formed
a Diapteron group and many of the current members
expressed the same feelings to me! Lastly I also
posted questions concerning Diapterons on the AKA
forum, guess what yupp no answer either.

I am not bashing. I love the AKA. I received my
Diapterons thanks to the AKA rare species committee. I
have also received many Killies from members. When I
lost a female or something many times I just received
eggs or that fish gratis.
By far Killie keepers are the most generous and best
all around folks in the fish world. My point is we
need to recruit young zealous Killie keepers to lead
the AKA in the future. The old guard should welcome
the new blood with open arms and teach these young
newcomers the customs and traditions that make the AKA
great. Well, my 2 cents
