I think an entrant should be able to get his fish back if desired. Entry
fee might be adjusted to help cover return mailing. [$6 entry fee, but
waived for any fish donated for auction, for example.]
I think any other entrant should share in the auction proceeds -- not less
than half of what his/her fish brings in! Half the per-fish income from
1000 entries would be better than 100% from 300. No?
I have been trying to hit the delete key before reading most of
these posts, but I must reply............... Here we go again, this is the
premier National Group in the Hobby, It is responsible for making
literature available about killies more so than any other group in the
world. Throughout the history of the AKA the dedication and altruism of
the club have stood far above and beyond anything like it in the world.
Dedicated people write books, do research, donate time, all
without receiving any sort of compensation................... It is the
one thing that I am most proud of. No one receives any money for their
intellectual property, their photography, or their literary skills.
And what has made this possible, A group of people for over 40
years donating fish to the association so that the money realized would be
used to produce material and literature for the membership. I can think
the altruism of the AKA members is what sets us apart.
Let's not start our annual, we should have our fish back, we
should get some money for the entries, we should be compensated for
donating fish ........... why ???? When you think about the actual
cost of a pair of killies when the fish spawn every day of their adult
life , it is a small contribution to an organization with which there
would have never been a Killifish hobby.
If an entrant gets money for his fish, an editor deserves money
for their expertise, an author should be paid for their intellectual
property ...... and on and on it goes.
If you really want you fish buy it back as a fine contribution to
the organization that created, fostered and educated the hobby of
Killifish keeping
